The ICS research activity, Ljubljana covers research ranging from basic interdisciplinary related social, technical and natural sciences to applied and empirical research that is directly intended for users. Research is embedded in contemporary trends in individual fields and flows in the interaction of analyzing foreign and developing our own basic concepts within the framework of corporate security theory and practice.
The point of view of the research object is to study comprehensive responses to preventing or reducing security risks, with a focus on the national and wider regional security environment and the target actors operating there. Applied research covers empirical data and the use of research methodologies that help to gain accurate insight into ongoing processes and to formulate the goals of changing interventions and to analyze various quality factors in the area of corporate security. According to established classifiers, research can be defined as theoretical, fundamental, applied, comparative, historical, empirical, longitudinal, action, qualitative, quantitative, etc. With its research policy, ICS, Ljubljana follows the development of modern security threats and their responses, investigates current problems and monitors corporate security trends at home and in the world.
Engaging in international research is an important source of comparing comparative findings on the functioning of systems approaches to corporate security, which are, among other things, the starting point for domestic evaluations of the quality of security processes and the identification of problems and dilemmas in the area of comprehensive corporate security assurance.
The results of the research are available in scientific monographs, collections of sources, central domestic and foreign professional journals, thematic proceedings, textbooks and other independent publications and on the ICS web portal, Ljubljana.
New forms of security threats and responses to them require new research as well as networking with other institutions. ICS, Ljubljana is traditionally involved in international research and in particular participates in various international comparative studies. Slovenia's work in Euro-Atlantic relations is a new challenge for the Institute, which will require even greater international engagement of researchers. The Institute's scientific and professional staff regularly participate in numerous national and international scientific meetings, symposia and conferences.
