Projekt SUNRISE

As Europe continues to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, its citizens and governments are searching for future-proof social structures. The EU-funded SUNRISE project aims to ensure greater availability, reliability and continuity of critical infrastructures in Europe, including transport, energy, water and healthcare.

From October 2022 to September 2025, 41 partner organizations will work together to develop a range of new technologies and solutions that will improve the resilience of these critical infrastructures to the impact of a pandemic and other major risks. The SUNRISE project, coordinated by the Spanish branch of global cloud and digital services company ATOS IT Solutions and Services Iberia SL, has received €10 million in funding from the EU's Horizon Europe research and innovation programme. The SUNRISE consortium includes 18 public and private critical infrastructure operators and authorities.

In addition to the Institute for Corporate Security Studies-ICS Ljubljana, XLAB, the Ministry of Infrastructure, UKC Ljubljana, Plinovodi, ELES, Slovenske železnice, Slovenske železnice-infrastructure, the Transport Institute and Telekom Slovenia are also present at the project.

SUNRISE

All SUNRISE deliverables (strategy and tools) will be co-created and piloted in a real-world environment with several relevant public critical infrastructure authorities and operators from across Europe. This will enable the preparation of results for widespread use, replication and upscaling in different critical entities, critical sectors and European countries.

During the SUNRISE project, the partners will conduct several pilot experiments for tool demonstration, validation and evaluation, focusing on architectural and privacy-related issues. The SUNRISE strategy and technologies will be validated and demonstrated by critical infrastructure stakeholders in operational environments.

SUNRISE's validation activities focus on three countries: Spain, Italy and Slovenia. A series of national workshops with critical infrastructure operators in each of these countries is planned.
Throughout its lifetime, SUNRISE will develop technologies and solutions to improve the planning and management of critical infrastructure such as transportation, energy, water and healthcare.
