DEFENDER project

The DEFENDER project is part of an EU-funded research area under H2020-CIP-2016-2017.

The Defending the European Energy Infrastructures (DEFENDER) project is a three-year research project funded by the EU under H2020-CIP-2016-2017. ICS-Ljubljana is part of a wider international consortium consisting of 18 partners from 9 countries.

The main objective of the European DEFENDER project is to develop, adapt, integrate, upgrade and validate several different technologies and operational plans in order to develop new approaches to protect existing and future European electrical critical infrastructure. Cyber-physical-social threat management is based on:

  • new security concepts for life-cycle assessment, resilience assurance and recovery operations that offer "security in design"
  • threat detection and incident management systems.
The DEFENDER project will try to establish mechanisms for raising a safety culture, that will ensure, that sensitive information is exchanged between trained employees and representatives of the wider community in the event that they act as responsible individuals and highlight certain risks.
ICS Ljubljana plays an important role in the project, especially in the field of risk identification and assessment of European critical infrastructure.
