The President of the Council of the ICS Ljubljana at the round table on the Days of European Data Protection

In behalf European Data Protection Days, Information Commissioner of RS, which is also a corporate member of the Slovenian Association for Corporate Security, organized a round table entitled "What kind of privacy do we wish in the world of new dimensions of control?". The content of the event, which took place on Thursday, 28 January 2016, in the hall of the National Council, was dedicated to the challenges posed by the drones and related forms of control. The event was opened with an introductory speech by Mr. Mitja Bervar, President of the National Council.

The round table was led by Mrs. Mojca Prelesnik, Information Commissioner and she hosted several guests: Dr. Denis Čaleta from Institute for Corporative Security Studies and the Slovenian Association of Corporate Security, MSc. Tatjana Bobnar, Deputy Director General of Police, Boštjan Vidmar from the Institute for the development of unmanned systems, Dr. Ales Završnik from the Institute of Criminology at the Faculty of Law and Mr. Lenart J. Kučić, reporter. They discussed the pros and cons of drones, impacts that various new technologies bring to the right to privacy and the relevant regulatory solutions which can ensure its safe use. The round table opened a number of issues and concluded that the regulatory framework of the drones is necessary, any delay could be dangerous. Disorder increases safety and security risks and also the risks on the field of fundamental human rights.

Dr. Denis Čaleta, Chairman of the Board of the Institute for Corporative Security Studies, pointed out that all the risks on the other hand also bring opportunities. The drones could also bring cheaper services. Moreover, he expressed the need for fast adoption of the rules. "In Slovenia, it is still alive the memory of the balloon accident and its consequences. We do not want the moment when disaster happens, which can be followed by the radical regime, that technology would not be able to use it."
