The representatives of ICS-Ljubljana attended the initial meeting officially launched a three-year research project Defending the European Energy Infrastructures (DEFENDER), which was held from 22. till 23. of May 2017 in Rome. The project is part of a research area financially supported by the EU under the H2020-CIP-2016-2017. ICS-Ljubljana is part of a wider international consortium consisting of 18 partners from 9 countries.
The main goal of the DEFENDER project is to develop, adapt, integrate, upgrade and verify a number of different technologies and operational plans in order to develop new approaches to protect existing and future European electrical critical infrastructure. The management of cyber-physical-social threats is based on a) new protection concepts for life-cycle assessment, resistance and implementation of recovery measures offering "safety when planning" and b) threat detection systems and risk management in case of incidents.
The DEFENDER project will continue to create mechanisms for raising a safety culture that will ensure the exchange of sensitive information between trained employees and representatives of the wider social community in cases where they would appear as responsible individuals and would draw attention to certain risks.
ICS Ljubljana plays an important role within the project, especially in the area of risk identification and assessment to European critical infrastructure.
