27. November 2023

Today, November 27, 2023, a national consultation entitled "Resilience and continuity of operation of key organizations is an imperative of modern society" was held in the State Council of the Republic of Slovenia, jointly organized by the State Council Commission, the Institute for Corporate Security Studies (ICS) and the Slovenian Association for Corporate Security. The consultation was coordinated by Denis Čaleta PhD, president of the ICS Council and Mr. Rajko Fajt, President of the Commission for State Regulation.

The meeting was opened by the President of the National Council, Mr. Marko Lotrič and Denis Čaleta PhD, President of the ICS Council. Then followed a round table where extremely important actors participated, namely Mr. Boštjan ŠEFIC, adviser in the Cabinet of the Prime Minister/coordinator for eliminating the consequences of floods, Uroš SVETE PhD, Director of the Office for Information Security, Boštjan PAVLIN, M. Sc., Director General of the Directorate for Defense Affairs MORS, M. Sc. Marko MIŠMAŠ, director of the Agency for Communication Networks and Services of the Republic of Slovenia (AKOS), M. Sc. Aleksander MERVAR, director of ELES d.o.o. and Mr. Aleš SKOK, president of the board of Cinkarna Celje d.d. The round table was connected by the president of the ICS council, Denis Čaleta PhD, and state councilor Mr. Rajko Fajt. The discussion focused on the challenges brought by a demanding security environment with included security threats. They also talked about the recent floods, which once again showed the need to successfully survive only those organizational environments that provide an adequate systemic approach in ensuring business continuity planning in their regular business process. They also highlighted the issue of two important European directives in the field of critical infrastructure and information security when they were introduced into the Slovenian legal order (NIS-2 directive and CER directive). Both directives address the provision of adequate continuity of operation of key entities and services, their robustness and uniform stress tests to verify their ability to function in crisis situations.

After the round table, three more extremely interesting presentations of EU projects followed, namely the ATLANTIS project, which was presented by Jolanda Modic PhD, from the Institute for Corporate Security Studies, PRECINCT project presented by Mr. Aljoša Kandžič from the Institute for Corporate Security Studies and the SUNRISE project, which was presented by Milan Tarman PhD, from the Institute for Corporate Security Studies.

Based on experience from important EU projects, the consultation helped strategic management and the professional public to indicate good points in the implementation and construction of an appropriate system of continuous operation of their organizations.

You can watch the recording of the national consultation on the YouTube channel of the National Council of the Republic of Slovenia. The event was also broadcast live on the 3rd program of RTV Slovenia.
