Challenges of protecting anonymous whistleblower applicants in the corporate environment of organizations

11. February 2022

We dedicated our February meeting of the Slovenian Corporate Security Association to the important content of the protection of anonymous whistleblowers. At the round table we hosted Mr. Albert Nabernik (Commission for the Prevention of Corruption), Mr. Ivana Galeta (Whistler Protection Center), MSc. Anton Travner (Dars), Mr. Franc Pavlin (Petrol), and Mr. Boštjan Trstenjak (Pro-integra).

The main focus of the round table discussion was on:

  • Understanding and clarifying the role of stakeholders in defining anonymous reporting of irregularities in organizations;
  • Understanding that anonymous applications are not unique to state and public institutions, but that the public economic sector is also extremely important in this regard;
  • Challenges that still need to be clarified in the final preparation of the legal basis in the Republic of Slovenia;
  • The role of regulators and supervisors in introducing new solutions to protect anonymous applicants;
  • Ensuring the anonymization of applicants and the adequacy of personal data protection;
  • Dilemmas in enforcing organizational and technical systems for ensuring the anonymity of applicants;
  • Examples of good practice already established in certain organizational environments.

It is necessary to establish a general social culture of responsibility, which will ensure that the prescribed models are reflected in practice. We were not talking about that at the moment.

After the round table, we invited our members to join the expert discussion and ask questions to our roundtable participants, who were happy to answer.
